“Stylo displays Toubab Krewe's considerable range, skill, and ability to cross genre boundaries - PopMatters

“Toubab Krewe has defied the odds… Time off has only refreshed Toubab Krewe’s creative juices and enriched their signature blend of West African and American sensibilities, as freewheeling as it is studied.” - Afropop

“... as inspired, innovative, and eclectic as ever.” - Live for Live Music

March 2nd, 2018 (Asheville, NC) - Intercontinentally-influenced instrumental quintet Toubab Krewe are proud to announce the release of their third studio album, Stylo, out today, March 2nd. On Stylo, the band have fine-tuned their knack for combining West African instruments such as the kora, ngoni, and djembe, with American stringed instruments such as the electric guitar and bass. On Wednesday, Relix Magazine premiered the full album online stream; click HERE to listen.p

The eight-track compilation is a testament to the band’s creative abilities to produce genre-bending rhythms and energetic melodies, while also showcasing their incredible technical expertise. The new material is entirely instrumental with the exception of the seventh track “Miriama”. The track, originally made famous by Baaba Maal, made such an impact on the band during their visit to West Africa in 2001 that they decided to create their own rendition of the song. Toubab Krewe’s interpretation features guest vocals recorded in Bamako, Mali from Sekou Bah and Wassa Coulibaly. “Miriama” also features special guests Petit Adama Diarra as well as Lamine Soumano who has been a musical mentor to the band since 2001. artnered

For Stylo, Toubab Krewe partnered with Seed Programs International (SPI) - an Asheville-based non-profit organization, which provides quality seeds and critically-needed expertise to impoverished communities in developing countries. A limited run of 500 Toubab Krewe collector’s seedboxes, which include eight vegetable seed packets plus a download of the album and cover art sticker, were crafted in celebration of this partnership. A portion of all seedbox proceeds goes to SPI.

Known for their unforgettable improvisational performances, Toubab Krewe have mapped out a series of spring tour dates to celebrate their newest release including a Northeast appearance at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory (presented by Live for Live Music), and a two-night run in their hometown of Asheville, NC. This summer, fans can catch the band performing on festival stages such as CukoRakko Festival (Birmingham, AL), Sonic Bloom Festival (Spanish Peaks Country, CO), and both weekends of Electric Forest (Rothbury, MI). The band’s currently announced itinerary is below, with more dates and festival appearances coming soon.
