Slightly Stoopid Perform Surprise "Purple Rain" with Bob Weir, Karl Denson, Angelo, Moore, and Friends at TRI Studios

Live Broadcast To Stream for Free All Day Today, April 22nd, On Qello Concerts

April 22, 2016 (San Rafael, CA) - Last night, Slightly Stoopid returned to Tamalpais Research Institute (TRI Studios) for a live performance and webcast featuring special guests including legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, Karl Denson (Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Rolling Stones), Angelo Moore (Fishbone, Dr. Madd Vibe), Marlon Asher (Ganja Farmer), and Roger Rivas (Aggrolites). In honor of the passing of legendary pop-icon Prince, the group performed a surprise “Purple Rain” tribute. The full performance will continue to air for free all day today, April 22nd, until 10:30pm ET on Qello Concerts.

“Yesterday, we all woke up to shock and dismay,” explains Jon Phillips (Slightly Stoopid Management/ Silverback Music). “We were eating breakfast in the hotel nearby Bobby's TRI studio and everyone was recounting the incomparable effect Prince had as an artist. Some of us were kinda kicking around the idea of perhaps what kind of a Prince song we could play later that night. Then my phone rings and it’s Weir's manager who tells me Bobby wants to know if the guys (Stoopid) know any Prince in their repertoire.”

Although Slightly Stoopid had never covered Prince in their 20-year career, the band felt moved to pay respect to one of the greatest living artists of our modern times. Fortunately, Karl Denson had recently been performing select Prince cover sets in 2015 and was very familiar with the material. With Kyle MacDonald (bass), Miles Doughty (guitar), and Ryan Moran (drums) holding down a solid reggae-styled groove, the addition of Angelo Moore taking a powerful lead on vocals, and Bob Weir on rhythm guitar and background vocals, the group performed a stirring rendition of Prince’s classic “Purple Rain.” Adds Phillips, "under a full "Cherry Moon", the rock n' roll Gods including Jerry Garcia, Bradley Nowell and Prince smiled from heaven."
