Born and raised in New Orleans, The Madd Wikkid carries a range of skills and experience as rich and diverse as the culture of his hometown. A professionally trained pianist and jazz composer, Wikkid has experience as a sound engineer, producer and performer. He has recorded albums for the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz band and worked on other various projects for Pretty Lights, Lenny Kravitz, Mos Def, Robert Plant, Erykah Badu, My Morning Jacket, Andrew Bird, and Shannon Powell to name a few.
Wikkid’s most recent projects include records dubbed Electronola and Brassft Punk, both released on TRAX Records. Each album was developed by bringing a prime selection of New Orleans performers into the studio and manipulating those recordings with Wikkid’s electronic production techniques. Brassft Punk was sparked by the inspiration to arrange Daft Punk’s 4 biggest hits for a brass band (“Harder, Better, Faster, Sronger”, “One More Time”, “Around the World”, and “DaFunk”. The live band features Khris Royal (Rebelution) on sax, as well as an all star NOLA cast of brass musicians. SPIN listed them as one of “The twenty-five best things we saw at Hangout Music Fest” last spring, and also included the band in their “15 Must See Acts at Hangout Music Fest” mix tape.
